SocialSoftware

To be included in the nethood site:

1) Sample pages of social software design relevant to a hybrid community

- User home page "a la flanerie"

- Anonymous communication "a la stupidforum"

- Tags everywhere

2) Customization

It would be also interesting to build on systems like ning and propose a list of configuration parameters that would improve the usability of this software for neighborhood communities.

Note: Ecovillage vancouver moved to ning: http://villagevancouver.ning.com/

Another, open source, social network platform that we should study: http://elgg.org/

Here a few examples of sites using elgg: http://community.brighton.ac.uk/ (students) http://www.cayambelibre.org/ (a city community in spanish)

A way to categorize such frameworks:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_social_networking_software

And the categorization of hybrid neighborhood communities is here:

http://urbanstring.com/?p=5

3) Generic Tools/services

- Translation

It would be very helpful to develop a simple tool that allows people to collaboratively translate things (from web pages to poems)

- Collaborative questionaires

One of the most annoying things of questionaires is when none of the available answers fits yours. It would be cool to provide a way for people to propose and even vote on the possible answers of a questionaire ... even add their own questions :-)

4) Analysis of social software details through personal experience

Browse different virtual and hybrid online communities and take screenshots of the details that we believe affect behavior and the evolution of the corresponding communities.
